Uploading Bookshare book into Google Drive

Students can hear books read aloud and respond directly in document (if desired) using the highlighting tools in Read and Write for Google.

Uploading Bookshare book into Google Drive
1.       Download book using Read OutLoud (advantage to using Read OutLoud: it automatically extracts the zipped files, and it’s saved by default to the Documents folder)
2.       Find the .xml file in the downloaded book folder in Documents
3.       Simply RE-TYPE the .xml suffix to read .html  So Harry_Potter.xml will now read Harry_Potter.html A window will pop up warning you that it may make it unstable. Ignore it.
4.       Open Google Drive
5.       Upload this new .html file and make sure to convert it to Google format
6.       THAT’S IT!

The alternative is to use Firefox to convert the .xml to .html This method MAY preserve a little more of the original formatting. Here’s how:
1.       Download book using Read OutLoud (advantage to using Read OutLoud: it automatically extracts the zipped files, and it’s saved by default to the Documents folder)
2.       Find the .xml file in the downloaded book folder in Documents
3.       Right click on this file, open with Firefox (Firefox will not automatically pop up as a choice at first—you have to find the Mozilla folder, open it, and then make Firefox the default). After the book opens up in Firefox, right click on the Firefox window and save the .html file to the desktop.
4.       Open Google Drive
5.       Upload this new .html file and make sure to convert it to Google format
6.       THAT’S IT!
