From CDE:
We realize that most of you are very aware of the new accommodation for the CMAS(PARCC) English Language Arts/Literacy Assessments that allows “text-to-speech, human reader, or (sign language) interpreter.”
What many of you may not be aware of is that this is considered to be a Unique Accommodation (comparable to the previous “non-standard” designation). It is required that the CDE Unique Accommodation Request be completed and submitted to CDE for each individual student you have determined meets the criteria for having this accommodation. The attached, newly-revised version of the request form makes it clear that even though this accommodation is “listed” in the PARCC manual, it is one of three exceptions that do require the submission of this Unique Accommodation Request. This is due to the additional requirement for these three that a reporting notation be included on the confidential student report.
These Unique Accommodation Requests need to be submitted to your District Assessment Coordinator (DAC). The deadline for DACs to submit these Unique Accommodations Requests to CDE is DECEMBER 15. We were informed that there is a bit of wiggle-room, but that CDE does need to receive all requests prior to winter break (assuming December 19 for most of you).
***Please contact brigitte.mutter @bvsd.org immediately if you plan on using text-to-speech for a student!!!
